  System Configuration

     1. Basic Crosswalk

A basic Illuminated crosswalk consists of road markers, and a means to activate them, typically using push buttons.

Crosswalk

When configuring a basic crosswalk, we typically use the formula of 2 road markers per lane plus one. This is typically applied to each side of the crosswalk. A variation is to only place road markers on the approach side. Poles can be supplied if there are no existing poles at the site. Installation for such a crosswalk typically is completed within one day.

Wireless Beacon

2. Basic Crosswalk with wireless LED Beacons

This system adds solar power wireless LED Beacons to the crosswalk. The beacons are placed in advance of the crosswalk (up to 1000 ft) on the approach side. The beacons are extremely bright and add an extra dimension of warning to approaching drivers. The beacon is activated wirelessly when the pedestrian presses the push button at the crosswalk.

     2a. LED Beacons Only

This variation is also a common configuration. No road markers are used but all the other elements are installed. When a pedestrian presses the push button the LED Beacons in advance of the crosswalk are activated. Naturally road markers and LED warning signs can be added later.

Advance Warning Sign

     3. Basic Crosswalk with Advanced Warning Sign

In this configuration the standard W11-2 Advance Warning sign is illuminated with high power LEDs. The LED Advanced Warning Signs are placed in advance of the crosswalk (up to 1000 ft) on the approach side. The sign is activated wirelessly when the pedestrian presses the push button at the crosswalk.

A variation of this configuration is to place the LED Warning Sign at the crosswalk. When this is done the pole-mounted activator box is incorporated into the sign.

     4. Fully configured Crosswalk

A fully configured crosswalk is a combination of all of the configurations explained above. It has road markers, push button activation, LED Warning Signs at the crosswalk and LED Beacons in advance on the approach side of the crosswalk. Naturally there are many other possible configurations and we have outlined those that are most popular.
